Health Programs
The entire town turned out to the event. The doctor, a young Cuban, and a load of pharmaceuticals arrived by mule. We got a disturbing profile of our students' health. The children are suffering from severe malnutrition, parasites and water-borne pathogens. We now need to add health care to our other urgent priorities so that our students are healthy enough to learn.
We will also recruit and train five health agents to conduct an in-depth health and economic census of all households in our area. This census will help us understand the scope of need for ongoing medical care and also provide the data with which to launch the inoculation program.
Polio is a disease that had once all but disappeared from Haiti, but is now coming back due to a lack of inoculations. Infectious diseases are especially devastating to undernourished children and elderly. As our health clinic and census data base is established we will institute a comprehensive immunization program.
Our plan to bring clean water to the village involves 5 phases: Phase 1: Do the plan and budget to capture water from
a high mountain spring and pipe it to the village. Your general donations or Sponsor a Child pledge help us continue to deliver emergency health care to the village. $10,000 can cover doctor's visits, setup of the community dispensary,
hiring healthcare workers, and conducting the health census.
