Building the Renaissance Elementary School

Haiti Community Support purchased enough land to build a new school building, a community kitchen and gardens to support the school lunch program. The new school building has seven classrooms and a library and science lab, plus a community kitchen and food warehouse. The completed building is 4,000 square feet, and our enrollment is now at more than 200 students, with 60,000 free lunches now being served annually. For many of the children, the lunch they receive at school is their only hot meal of the day.

In this mountain hamlet, that had never had a free elementary school, the whole village turned out to assist in the construction of their new 4000 sq. ft. public school house. Carrying materials, mixing concrete, making blocks, (by hand), parents who never had the gift of education, understand education is the greatest legacy they can offer their children.

Haiti Community Support is currently supporting expansion of the curriculum of The Renaissance School. We seek to partner with US Colleges and Universities who can become involved in the long range success for education in the Haiti countryside. HCS is building housing within the Village that can accommodate teachers who will be recruited through this new education initiative.
